Gov. Tim Walz Sharpens Focus on Trump’s Stance, Highlighting Reproductive Health Care Differences

On Saturday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz intensified his critique of former President Donald Trump’s recent comments on women, drawing a sharp contrast on reproductive health care policies. Walz connected Trump’s language—claiming he would “protect” women “whether they like it or not”—to the harsh reality many women face in states with restrictive reproductive health laws.

During a campaign rally in Flagstaff, Arizona, Walz emphasized the impact of Trump’s appointment of three Supreme Court justices, which contributed to the 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade. The Minnesota governor reversed Trump’s phrasing to illustrate the consequences for women in states with limited access to reproductive care.

“Because of those appointments, we’re seeing women turned away from emergency rooms and miscarriaging in parking lots—whether they like it or not,” Walz said. “Survivors of rape and incest are forced to carry pregnancies to term, whether they like it or not. Fertility clinics are turning couples away, whether they like it or not.”

Walz then called on women voters to respond by rejecting Trump’s approach to women’s health care issues, echoing Trump’s words in a powerful message to the audience.

“I have a feeling that women across this country, from all walks of life and both political parties, will deliver a clear message to Donald Trump on Tuesday, November 5th,” Walz declared to applause. “Whether he likes it or not.”

As the election nears, Walz is increasingly contrasting his stance on reproductive rights with that of Trump and highlighting the differences between Vice President Kamala Harris’ support among women voters and Trump’s record on women’s issues. With polling showing a significant divide among female voters, Walz’s remarks come at a time when reproductive health care continues to be a decisive issue.
